When people think about online shopping, usually they think of shopping on the stores’ websites and ordering there. But what if brand name items could be bought for less? And in good condition? Well, there’s an app for that.

There are a couple of shopping apps that can be found if you search for them in the app store, but a few popular ones are Poshmark, Mercari, Tradesy, and Vinted. On these apps, you can specifically search for the items that you want, including searching for the price you are willing to pay, the size, the brand and the condition of the item.

Sounds just like regular online shopping, right? Well what makes these apps unique is that you get to sell your items too!

To sell items, simply take pictures of what is being sold, give it a title as well as a description, and include the category the item belongs to, the size, the brand, the condition of the item and the price. If someone is interested in the item, they can ask questions and then they can purchase. All the seller has to do is print out a shipping label the app will send, package the item and then wait for them to say they’ve received it.

How does the seller receive their money? The seller can have it sent straight to their bank account whenever they’re ready for it, or on some apps such as Poshmark, they can request for them to send them a check in the mail instead.

So what if you buy or sell an item, and the person you’re buying from or selling to isn’t honest about sending or receiving the item? The apps are already one step ahead of you. Mercari, for example, has a Buyer Protection Guarantee, as well as one for sellers. If something is wrong, all you have to do is contact them and they’ll work with you to fix your problem.

These apps are really good if you want to buy name brand items for a lower price, for making money on the side, and it’s not very time consuming. You may have to put an hour aside to create listings, put aside ten minutes to package something if it’s sold to put in the mailbox, and five minutes each day just to check on your accounts. That’s not much time to put aside, especially when you’re on your phone or iPad anyways.

If you’re new to buying or selling on apps like these, check out making an account on either Poshmark or Mercari to give it a try. If you’re more experienced, I would recommend trying Tradesy or Vinted. If you decide that you don’t want to save money or make extra money by selling clothes that are sitting at the bottom of your closet, you can delete your account at any time.

Just give it a try and see how you like it. Who knows, by saving and making money, you may just find something that you really like, and every bit of money that you save will go towards buying something that you’ve been saving up for.
