As students prepare for exams, the start of excitement happens as Christmas break approaches. Students start to make plans for their much needed break.

“I’m going to spend time with my friends and family. I’m going to get some well deserved rest after taking all my exams,” senior Meghan Hardin said.

Students will get an extended rest from the long school days and exams and relax for the break until they have to come back to school.

“I think winter break should stay the same length because if it were any shorter it would be pointless, and if it were any longer we would forget things for semester classes,” junior Matt Hawkins said.

Students will get to celebrate Christmas and New Years with their families and friends. Students get to have much more sleep during the break.

“I plan to sleep a lot on Christmas Day. I’m just going to try and relax and forget about everything,” sophomore Ja’Derrick Browning said.

Most students like to relax and enjoy their break with their friends and family. But some do worry about the semester exams they have to take when they get back from the break.

“I get bored easily, so that’s a downside to winter break. Sometimes you take exams after winter break, so you’re still worrying about those while on break,” Matt said.

Everyone enjoys spending time with family and friends, whether it be eating dinner or watching Christmas movies and Everyone loves to have family traditions that they do with their families.

“Eating dinner with my family in Raleigh is what I do on Christmas. We also watch movies,” Matt said.

Students also say how excited they are about coming back on January 3rd instead of January 2nd. So they have more time on celebrate the new year.

“I like that we have an extra day because people usually like to party for New Years, so you don’t have to worry about going to school the next day or anybody being absent.

Students also miss seeing their friends from school from winter break because some students go out of town. This also affects the way students feel about the long break.

“I don’t like not being able to see my friends during winter break, and taking exams before and after if you take a semester class,” freshman Lauren Beatson.

Some students stay at home with their families and some students leave with their families or go see their families in different places. Some even travel out of South Carolina to do so.

“I’m going to New York with my family for 6 days during winter break just for fun. We plan to sightsee and shop,” Lauren said.

When students finish their last exam on Friday December 16, they will be able to have a long break. They will be able to be with family and friends wherever they go.

“On Christmas I’m having friends and family over for dinner and we’re going to open presents,” Meghan said.
