For movie goers, 2018 is looking to be good year. Many films have been announced and people are stoked for this year’s new releases.
Here’s a list of the top five movies to look forward to in 2018:
From the release of Captain America: Civil War, many got to see the introduction of T’Challa, King of Wakanda, fans were excited to hear that he would be getting his own movie, Black Panther. Not only were fans of the Marvel franchise excited to hear about this, but also African Americans, seeing as this was the first superhero movie that involves a majority African American cast. The soundtrack has Kendrick Lamar as the executive producer, incorporating blends of hip-hop and cinematic orchestral scores. This soundtrack not only has the hip-hop style of Lamar, but also has native African sounds that make it blend with the concept. So far, the rating for this film has been substantial, with Rotten Tomatoes giving it a 99% approval rating. This is higher than The Dark Knight, which was the highest rated film of all time for them.
In the famous words of Samuel L. Jackson, “There was an idea… ” begins the trailer for Avengers: Infinity War, set to release on May 4th of this year, but was moved up to April 27th. This plot has the Avengers, Doctor Strange, Black Panther, the Guardians of the Galaxy, Ant-man and the Wasp teaming up to face Thanos. The film is split into two parts, with part two currently planned to release May 3, 2019. From the tone of Thor: Ragnarok, it seems that Infinity War is going to be gut wrenching for fans with the amount of jokes and laughs you get for the God and his antics. This year is going to be a good year for the fanbase.
Coming June 15th is the Incredibles 2. Many fans believed that the movie would have come out next year due to the line in the first Incredibles film, “Too late, fifteen years too late.” The villain Syndrome was referring to how Mr. Incredible blew the fanboy off fifteen years prior, and now he’s too bitter to do anything but destroy the superhero’s life. In the follow up, it seems we get to explore the powers of Jack-Jack, which seem to be one of the most exciting elements of the upcoming film.
Everyone deserves a Cinderella love story, but for Simon Spicer it was complicated. He hasn’t told his family or friends that he’s gay, and he doesn’t know the identity of the anonymous classmate that he’s fallen for online. Love, Simon is based on the book “Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda,” readers have said that they enjoy the realism of Simon figuring himself out and made people realize that LGBTs are just regular people. The movie is set to release March 16.
Another film coming this June is Ocean’s 8, an action-packed comedy following the story of Debbie Ocean. She attempts a robbery at New York City’s annual Met Gala. Her first step is to gather her desired crew, or more popularly called Ocean’s 8. Set to release on the 8th of June, this all-female spinoff of the Ocean’s Eleven series includes cast members Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, and even Rihanna.
